Put Baby to Sleep in an Adirondack Rocker – For Every Nursery
If you are invited to a baby shower, what can you purchase for the new mother that is unique and different? She will be decorating the nursery so look for special items she cannot find just anywhere. Mom will receive many baby blankets, quilts, toys, car seats, rattles, etc; but why not choose gifts so different they cannot be duplicated by anyone? If you like this gift idea but you are craft challenged, help mom decorate the nursery and let others do the work. Adirondack chairs and small rockers are ideal in a nursery. There are handmade well-crafted chairs on the market or try making your own. The chairs are comfortable and can be painted to match the nursery, or let the beauty of the wood shine through. What mom wouldn't love to rock her baby to sleep in an Adirondack styled rocker? If you are crafty, personal custom-made crib bedding sets, blankets and quilts can fit the personality of the mother; but how do you start the customization process? If you know how the home is decorated; that will give you a place to begin when choosing just the right gift. Start with color. Is the new baby a pink princess or a blue prince? Are pastel shades prevalent or has mom chosen to go with primary colors? Is the motif country, contemporary, vintage, shabby chic, nursery rhyme, or something very different? If you know how the nursery is decorated, this will give you a clue how for personalizing the blanket or quilt. Vintage and shabby chic nurseries will look even cuter with a quilt made from scraps of vintage fabrics or inexpensive remnants from the fabric store. Make it sort of a crazy quilt pattern with colors appropriate to the nursery. You do not have to be a master quilter. Just place the scraps onto a predetermined size for the crib and start randomly stitching over the scraps in thread colors that complement the fabrics chosen. Don’t limit yourself to just cutesy baby bedding fabrics either. You would be surprised how great a quilt can turn out with piecing together fabrics that you would not ordinarily put in a nursery. Think outside the box with colors and patterns. Once the stitching is done; wash it and let the stitching shrink the material. Then put a batting on the back and finish the ends. You have a quick quilt just for mom and the new baby. The crib set or quilt doesn’t have to match exactly the nursery theme because mom will change the set often and just having a color blended into the theme will make a nice change from other sets she may have already purchased. I like the idea of giving a new baby gift that is custom made for the baby nursery; then mom can add all of the little touches that really make the room warm and inviting. She wants to be happy and for the baby to feel loved in the nursery, and all of the hand done things that are made with love add that energy and spark of warmth that will carry over into the room. They show that you really care and that you took a lot of time and thought when choosing just the right item for their new baby. Beverly
